Year 3-8: Netball 2018

Welcome to Arrowtown School Netball 2018!

Our team lists for 2018 have now been released below.
Your coach will be in contact shortly to arrange practice times for your team. Given the shortage of space at school with the building project, practices may be at school or at the Arrowtown Tennis Club.

All teams start the Wakatipu Netball Centre competition on the 14th April.


2018 SEASON CALENDAR

The Wakatipu Netball Centre has set the dates for the 2018 season as follows:
  • Year 3 - 5 14th April then continuing after the holiday 5th May - 7th July (No games 2nd June as queens Birthday)
  • Year 6 - 8 14th April - 28th July
  • Years 3 - 5 FINALS DAY 7th July
  • Years 6 - 8 FINALS DAY 4th August and a finals day carnival
  • Note: The season may go longer if we lose days due to bad weather

The weekly WNC Saturday draw will be online here, uploaded by WNC the preceding Tuesday evening.
All games are played at the Queenstown Events Centre.
There are also annual tournaments, which at the discretion of the Club the school may or may not enter in, as follows:
  • Central Lakes Primary Schools Tournament at Molyneux Park Alexandra - Years 5 & 6 21st August and Years 7 & 8 22nd August.
  • Top Teams from the CLPST will progress to the Challenge Tournament at Cross Recreation Centre, Balclutha - 23rd September.

COACHING COURSE DATES

Please note that it is compulsory for coaches to attend the appropriate course but also a valuable way to learn the rules of these adapted games and also learn warm drills and coaching skill that can be used in coaching in the future.  All attendees will receive a manual to take with them for future reference also, which is a very useful tool.

What happens in netball across the different year groups?
  • Years 1 and 2
4 x 4 aside netball on 1/3 of a full sized court in line with Netball NZ ANZ futureFerns, run wholly within the school by teachers and volunteer parents, typically during lunchtime. Goal height 2.1 metres or hoops held by adults, textured ball size 20cm.
Games are 2 x 8 minutes halves.

  • Years 3 & 4
5 x 5 aside netball on 2/3 of a full sized court in line with Netball NZ ANZ futureFerns.  Ungraded teams with the focus on participation & fun, and compulsory rotation of positions throughout the season. 1 practice per week run by parent coaches. Coaching course and materials are provided. Goal height 2.6 metres, ball size 4.
Games are 4 x 8 minute quarters.

  • Year 5 & 6
6 x 6 aside netball on a full sized court in line with Netball NZ ANZ futureFerns.  Ungraded teams with the focus on participation & fun, and compulsory rotation of positions throughout the season.  1 practice per week run by parent coaches. Coaching course and materials are provided. Goal height 2.6 metres, ball size 4.
Games are 4 x 8 minute quarters.

  • Years 7 & 8
7 x 7 aside netball on a full sized court, with players graded at the first day of the season, being Grading Day.  1 practice per week run by parent coaches.  Coaching course and materials are provided. Goal height 3.05 metres, ball size 5.
Games are 4 x 10 minute quarters.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS

The club ie. the development of our children’s netball, cannot run without our parent volunteers. We require a Year-level representative plus coaches and managers for all teams.  Fundraising objectives involving parent help will also be required.
