Mango the Arrowtown Cat Book by Wendy Clarke

About the Book

It is Tom’s first day at school. The school seems very strange and BIG. He meets Ginny who introduces him to Mango the Arrowtown School cat. Mango is loved by all of the children and makes Tom feel welcome.

However, Mrs Blunt the Head Teacher does NOT think Mango belongs at school.

Read this lovely gentle story about how young children can conquer their fears and make new friends.

Wendy has always loved writing and wrote poems from an early age. Recently she studied writing at Massey University. Since then she has had poems published, won a short story competition and has written a series of books that encourage teachers to teach poetry to children.

She lists Margaret Mahy as one of her favourite authors, it’s no surprise she has finally published a book inspired by, and written for children.

The star of our story, Mango, with his owners.

Mango is a middle aged ginger cat, who is usually found in the library, staff room, playground or even in the sick bay comforting an upset child at Arrowtown school. The Carter Family are the real owners of Mango, but they willingly share him with the more than 600 kids and the staff of the school. Ellie and Levi say Mango is always very sad during the school holidays when the kids are away.

                                                                                               The Illustrators
Mango the Arrowtown School Cat has been beautifully illustrated by some enthusiastic five, six and seven year olds from the school. Their illustrations have captured Mango as they see him every day, and are a wonderful match to  Wendy’s creative storytelling.
