Sports & Outdoor Education

All current sporting news, notices, results and information can be found on our sports blog.

We believe strongly in the benefits of active involvement in physical activity.

Physical Education

Classes are involved in regular physical education lessons. Athletics sports, swimming sports and crosscountry events are held annually. Many children participate at Central Otago events in swimming, triathlon, athletics, cross-country and the most able go on to represent the area at provincial events in swimming, crosscountry and athletics, held in Dunedin.

Sports Programme

Children are involved in weekly sports sessions with the other classes in their syndicate.
The winter sports programme in Term 3 is the highlight for many children; Year 1-3 children do iceskating while Year 4-8 children can choose from skiing or snowboarding at Coronet Peak or golf at the Arrowtown golf course.

Extra-curricular opportunities

Children can play cricket, netball and touch for school teams against other local schools.
Other opportunities based at the school include Scouts, Cubs, dance, karate, gymnastics etc. These activities are advertised in the school newsletter and in the "Our Community" section of the website.

School Camps

Senior classes have wonderful outdoor education activities. Year 6 classes have a local camp involving two days of activity close to home and then a trek into Macetown for two nights under canvas in there.
Year 7 children travel to Camp Columba at Pukerau for their camp. Columba is a great venue for this age group with a wide range of exciting activities.
Year 8 children travel even further away - to remote Deep Cove in Fiordland for a week of tramping, fishing, boating and learn how to survive without cell phones, MP3s etc.

Sports coordinator
